Sources of Wind Energy Analysis

Greenpeace have put together a guide entitled "WIND ENERGY: KEEPING THE LIGHTS ON", available as a PDF from GreenPeace.org.uk. The guide explores the concerns about wind energy as a viable source of electricity production, and summarises the findings of prominent energy analyst David Milborrow.

These concerns are:

  • Variability of wind
  • Ability of the grid infrastructure to handle fluctuations
  • Whether there is any nett reduction in CO2 emissions
  • What job opportunities are there compared to traditional electricity generation
  • How much will bills rise?
The guide concludes that modest amounts of backup capacity are required to maintain sufficient overall supply.

This guide was referenced from a Wind Energy Planning document: Do Wind Turbines Work?, compiled 7 November 2009.
