Radar-friendly Stealth Turbines a Possibility

Wind turbines that are invisible to radar? Sounds far-fetched, doesn't it. Well, that's one idea that will be pursued in a £5.15 million research project designed to minimise wind turbines' impact on radar signals.

Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband made the announcement today; it will be undertaken by NATS (UK air traffic control) and Raytheon Canada (a radar specialist).

Some of the funding is set to come from the Aviation Investment Fund Company, was set up last year by a coalition of wind energy firms.
