A side-effect of the ongoing financial difficulties faced by economies around the world is that renewables are getting a boost. However, the renewables emphasis varies from country to country, with European countries lagging way behind.
The UN Environment Programme recommends that a third of a country's stimulus package should be earmarked for 'green' projects. In Europe the amount is under 2%, although money from the EU itself is directing around 15% to green technologies. At the other end of the spectrum is South Korea, where 81% of recovery plan money is headed for clean technology.
