18 July 2010 Unity Wind is delighted to announce an award of £6257 from the Sheringham Shoal Community Fund. The fund meeting, organised by the Norfolk Community Foundation, was heavily oversubscribed. This means that the full application (to cover costs of a noise survey and traffic survey) was unsuccessful. The award will instead cover the noise survey costs.
The noise survey should only take a matter of weeks to complete, but it is quite detailed and involves considerable expertise and expensive equipment. The company performing the survey is Acoustic Associates (Peterborough); further information is available on the company's Environmental Noise Control page.
The Sheringham Shoal Community Fund is funded by Scira Offshore Energy Ltd which is constructing an offshore wind farm in the Greater Wash. The fund's aim is to benefit North Norfolk organisations "working towards limiting the impact of climate change, promoting environmental sustainability and contributing to the education in the renewable energy industry".
The Unity Wind directors are working on an alternative grant application for the traffic survey, which will cost in the region of £6700 +VAT.
